WHAT IS AIS LEGAL STATUS?

Art Identification Standard is a non-for-profit organisation,  formally registered as an association in France, EU. 

Its object is to "développer un standard universel visant à l'attribution d'un identifiant unique pour chaque œuvre d'art, dont le but est de faciliter l'interaction entre les Membres de l'association et au-delà, tous les acteurs de l'écosystème artistique".

WHAT IS AIS STORY?

AIS genesis dates back from June 2019, when three ArtTech companies (Articheck, Arteïa, Vastari) got together to set up an industry initiative promoting a standardised way to digitally attach an ID to artefacts.

WHICH OBJECT CATEGORIES ARE SUPPORTED BY AIS?

AIS identifier can be attached to any unique artefact, be it physical, digital or phygital, and whether newly created or pre-existing.
Some of AIS members are also looking to use DID for rare and luxurious objects such as bespoke fashion.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BEING AN AIS MEMBER?

WHICH BLOCKCHAIN IS PROMOTED BY AIS?

AIS is blockchain agnostic. The consortium does not promote a blockchain network. However, AIS reserves the right to endorse one or more networks in the future.

HOW DOES AIS WORK WITH OTHER STANDARDS?

AIS builds on existing best industry practices and standards.

For metadata, AIS looks at Dublin Core and for cultural heritage at CDWA (Categories for the Description of Works of Art), CCO, CHIN, Spectrum, DOCAM or Europeana Data Model...
